Project Amboli

Amboli is a dense evergreen forest located in the Sindhudurg district of the Western Ghats, Maharashtra,known for its rich biodiversity shaped by its humid climate.A Devrai is a traditional practice in the Konkan region, where forests are preserved as sacred groves in the name of a deity. Amboli Devrai is one such sacred grove. It is also the origin of the Hiranyakeshi River, adding to the ecological significance of the region. The area supports a wide range of fauna, including reptiles, amphibians, insects, birds, and small mammals, making it an important ecological hotspot in India.This work illustrates the faunal biodiversity of Amboli Devrai, drawing inspiration from the traditional Chitrakathi folk art of Pinguli. The information is presented in a simple and accessible way, making it easier to understand, while bringing together the ecological and cultural diversity of the region.
